1. Also, please study up on the company (specifically the Loyalty Group) as much as possible.

Remember that Affinion is an EXTERNAL client-driven environment and you should stress your versatility in prioritizing tasks, meeting quick deadlines and working in a very fast-paced environment. You should be able to quickly reference specific projects/situations to support these attributes. You also need to convey confidence in your abilities and your desire to continue to learn.

A couple of other pointers:

You need to sell yourself and come across as you really want this position – be positive, upbeat, smile and speak confidently

  1. Do not speak negatively about your current/previous company, position, etc.
  2. Dress very, very sharp
  3. Know the details of your recent projects. Get technical with your answers. Don’t get too lengthy but also avoid one word answers
  4. With each question confirm that they understand your answers
  5. With each question when appropriate, ask if they need additional information beyond what you have told them
  6. MUST HAVE, MUST HAVE: 2-3 strategic technical questions prepared – could be around platforms, architecture, business case, etc. – DO NOT ask administrative questions about vacation, salary or working from home, etc.
  7. This final one is not easy but don’t be afraid to ask for feedback after the interview is over and ASK FOR THE JOB!

3 final destinations

1.
Design, implement, and communicate between cancer center databases for the clinical research program. Train physicians, nurses and other clinical staff on new and existing modules of the databases and supervise data quality from the various departments contributing to the databases. Monitor overall quality and security. Independently solve complex problems related to data flow. Development and implementation of additional data modules are required as the systems grow. Continuous monitoring and evaluation of ongoing data elements for utility and quality through analysis and interpretation of analyses.

Minimum of two years experience strongly preferred in the following: senior programmer analyst or equivalent, or have demonstrated skills in program management and training personnel in the use of relational databases, and prior experience in the design and development of databases. Less experience may be acceptable if the ability to perform at the desired level has otherwise been demonstrated.

Good knowledge of effective project management techniques and system development methods. Excellent skills in MS Access, SQL Server, and Oracle. Effective verbal and written communication skills are essential as this position interacts with department heads and database managers. Ability to be creative, logical, and handle conceptual as well as detailed tasks. The analyst will be responsible for the final design details and implementation of new features/applications as well as ongoing maintenance of the database.

BS and training in data management including programming, systems development, and project management is preferred. Demonstrated experience in the management and development of large data systems (micro array data) used in the commercial sphere for data mining, use and development of relational databases, and management of projects that involved the development of relational databases may substitute for a BS with a minimum of four years' experience but may also substitute at the rate of one year of college for two years' experience.

Describe your experience with training database users.
I have had training session with database users who often have few previous knowledge on computer software. I prepared my own slides and handouts. Also
often some training exercises also helped users to better master the database software. I enjoy the interaction with users and getting their feedbacks. I have also learned to be patient and develop software that satisfies their need.
Describe your experience with IT project management.
As a senior developer, sometimes I have the responsibility of breaking down projects into different phases and schedule task to other developers.

On several projects I also act as the point of contact for users. For example often I give demo to users and get their feedback. I interact with developers to explain to them changes needed to the software.
